There’s a little bit of him in this piece. Literally.
Made this as a memorial to my dad so that I could keep a little bit of him on a shelf in my living room and be reminded of fond memories whenever I look at it. I custom made the pattern in Word. There is a bottom layer of 1/2″ baltic birch. The top layer is 1/8″ baltic birch and glued onto the bottom layer with the picture sandwiched in between. I bought a clear Christmas ornament from Amazon (the plastic kind you fill with stuff to craft your own ornament). I used half and filled it with a small bit of my dad’s ashes from his urn. I glued this into a hole that I had cut in the top layer. But I was worried that the glue might not be enough to hold it together and it falling off was the last thing I wanted. So I had the idea of coating the entire piece in a thin layer of resin. That worked extremely well. Not only is it holding the dome in securely but it makes the whole thing look so much nicer and shiny.
