Something other than wood
When I saw the pattern for this, I just had to try it. It was on my radar for years until I finally pulled the trigger and bought the pattern. It was not a very good pattern and the instructions were lacking and material lists were non existant. I bought some mirrored plexiglass online and hoped for the best. After a lot of cutting, I had to figure out how what to use in place of the little brass spacers. A lot of research later, I decided to just use a dowel that I cut and painted gold and glued in between the pieces. I found a clock parts supplier online and luckily ordered the proper parts that fit perfectly. I cut the base from various thickness plywood. I also used my lovely new hand router to round over the edges. It’s not perfect but it’s not bad and I enjoyed the challenge.
