Any Port in a Storm

An intense and stormy labour of love

This piece has 5 layers and took a great deal of time. The waves alone took many of hours of scrolling and the delicate nature of them made that challenging at times. The pattern calls for a solid backing but I used a piece of plexiglass instead so that I could pour on a layer of grey resin to simulate a stormy sky. After painting the waves and the border, I glued the layers together. Filling the waves with resin was also a long and painstaking process and even after I thought I had all the gaps filled, I found more. After adding the unfortunate little boat, I poured a layer of clear resin over the entire piece adding a rectangular frame on top to contain the resin. I decided to leave the frame a matte black instead of glossy to add to the gravitas of the piece as a whole.
